Arnold Schwartzman OBE RDI studied at Thanet School of Art and Crafts, and Canterbury College of Art (UCA), England, 1951-1955.

Arnold began his career as a graphic designer in television broadcasting and became an art director for Erwin-Wasey Advertising, London. He later joined the Board of Directors of Conran Design Group.

A long-time illustrator for the London Sunday Times, he also designed the magazine's "eureka" and "THE FACTS OF LIFE" series.

In 1978, he became Design Director for Saul Bass & Associates, Los Angeles, and later produced and directed the feature documentary "Genocide" (1981) which won him an Oscar. In 1982, he was appointed Director of Design for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Since reverting to his own design consultancy, his commissions have included a number of commemorative posters, related print collateral and cinema trailers for the Annual Academy Awards®; multi-screen video exhibits for the Museum of Tolerance and the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles; and a "Time Line" mural for the Skirball. He is the author/photographer of a score of books.

He has acted as external examiner at Maidstone and Canterbury colleges, as well as lecturing at many of the leading art institutions throughout the world, including a talk at Maidstone in December 2005.

Schwartzman is the recipient of numerous film and design awards, including three D&AD Silver awards. Elected to Alliance Graphique Internationale 1974, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2002.
