Former student Jeff Potter to receive honorary degree
The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is delighted to announce that former student Jeff Potter will be presented with an honorary degree this summer. He will be presented with the award at UCA Maidstone's graduation ceremony on 15 July 2011 at All Saints Church, Maidstone.
Following his graduation from one of UCA's founder colleges – the Maidstone College of Art - Jeff began work as a junior designer for the Sunday Times. Since then he has worked his way up to the position he holds today, Art Director of the Culture Section.
Jeff has been closely involved with the complete redesign of the Sunday Times and all supplement sections. He has worked on various sections of the paper including Books, Money and Business and was put in charge of a revamped Culture section in 1999.
He has recently worked on the designs for the new Ipad edition of The Times, a project that has been rated the best magazine or newspaper app in the world by the Ipad monitoring service iMonitor.
Jeff said: "I am very grateful to UCA for this prestigious honour. I greatly enjoyed my time at Maidstone which has proved invaluable to my subsequent career, and I look forward to returning for the award ceremony and meeting this year's graduates."
Professor Elaine Thomas, Vice-Chancellor at the University, said: "We are delighted to welcome Jeff to back to the University. Since studying with us he has established an impressive career. His ability to adapt his design skills to move with technological changes shows our students the importance of diversification within their field."
