Financial support for pre-degree students

Although students studying a pre-degree course are not eligible to apply for a loan from the Student Loans Company, there are a number of other sources of funding available to help you with the costs of studying.

Funding available from UCA

  • 16 - 19 Bursary Fund - there are a number of bursaries available from UCA to help with the cost of the course, travel, accommodation and living expenses. These are open to students aged between 16 and 19, studying a pre-degree course.   • Adult Learner Support Fund - is available to those over 19 and studying a pre-degree course. They are designed to help adult learners with a specific financial need which could prevent them from participating in learning. Financial support available from other sources

  • Residential Support Scheme - If you need to study away from home because the course you want isn't available locally, you may be able to get financial help with the cost of your term-time accommodation. For more details visit the Direct.gov website.
  • Care to Learn - If you are a young parent, Care to Learn can help with the cost of your childcare while you're learning. However the government is currently reviewing how parents aged 19 or over will be supported to continue their education from September 2012. For more details visit the Direct.gov website.
