International photography accolade for UCA student
A photography student from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) at Rochester has won first prize in a prestigious, international competition.
Nikitas Almpanis claimed the top award in the Fine Art - Collage category at the Prix de la Photographie, in Paris, for his image, It could be YOU next!
The MA Photography student said: "It feels so good to win this award at such a renowned contest where you really are up against the best photographers in the world.
"It will provide me with some great exposure and publicity which I hope will enhance my motivation and commitment as an artist and lead me to improve my work further."
The Prix de la Photographie Paris is a competition which strives to promote the appreciation of photography, to discover emerging talent, and introduce photographers from around the world to the artistic community of Paris.
The jury, which included world-renowned photographers, magazine editors and industry insiders, selected the winners from thousands entries from over 85 countries.
MA Photography course leader, Francis Summers, said: ""I am delighted that Nikitas has had success in such a prestigious competition.
"The MA Photography degree encourages students to take an active role in the world outside of UCA and I hope Nikitas' prize will serve as example for others on the course to see what kinds of success can be achieved."
Nikitas, who is originally from Irakleion, Greece, created the image as part of his MA course at UCA Rochester.
"The theme, simply put, is uniformity in the workplace, which gradually leads to the crush of individualism and the deterioration of character," he explains. "The elements in this picture are carefully placed in order to help, or sometimes stifle, the viewer in deciphering the meaning."
Nikitas' winning photograph will be exhibited in a high-profile gallery in Paris and published in a high-quality, full-colour Annual Book.
