Epsom Station receives facelift by UCA graduate

Epsom's new-look railway station has received a facelift from a graduate of the University for the Creative Arts (UCA).

The large-scale images of local people adorning the station entrance were created by UCA Epsom graduate Nick Jameson who won a competition set by Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and Solum Regeneration while still at university.

As part of the planning agreement with Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, Solum - the partnership between Network Rail and Kier Property that is building the scheme - agreed that the new development would incorporate public art, chosen from a competition of students at Epsom-based UCA

Nick's winning concept, 'People of Epsom' uses stylised likenesses of local people and their tributes to their community. Last year, Nick managed a stand in Epsom town centre giving local residents the unique opportunity of signing up to this ground-breaking art project.

Nick Jameson Nick Jameson, who graduated from BA (Hons) Graphic Design in 2011, said: "It's an amazing opportunity to be part of such a large project. Epsom has been a huge part of my life in the last few years so it will be great to leave my mark on its history.

"UCA have provided me with this opportunity and have been a great inspiration all the way through my university career.

"The artwork is for the people of Epsom which is why I want to incorporate the faces and opinions of those connected with the town. Hopefully there will be a good response."

The new ticket office at Epsom Station opened to the public on 21 June 2012 along with the new station concourse and decorated subway. New ticket machines have also been installed as part of the station re-development which will be completed later this year.

The project is part of Solum Regeneration's comprehensive redevelopment of Epsom station, which is providing a new station for the town, new homes (including affordable housing), a new hotel and a local convenience store.
