Key responsibilities include:

Finance:

  • Managing the University's financial stability through setting and monitoring budgets, developing capital investment programmes and achieving the Governors' designated surplus
  • Planning the University's short to medium term financial strategy
  • Supporting the development of the long term income generation strategy

Estate Services:

  • Developing a long term environmentally sustainable University estate
  • Updating the University's Estate Strategy

Human Resources:

  • Developing the University's Human Resources' Strategy

Health & Safety:

  • Monitoring the University's operational health and safety
  • Developing the University's Emergency Response & Incident Management Procedure

Biography:

Alan is an MBA qualified Chartered Surveyor with experience in both the public and private sectors. Before moving into Higher Education, Alan worked with multi-disciplined international property consultants as a Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager and Property Consultant.

Alan has been at the University for the Creative Arts and its predecessor (the Surrey Institute for Art & Design) for 16 years. Before this most recent appointment, Alan's roles included Head of Estate Services, Head of IT Services and Interim Head of Finance. Alan has been responsible for the development of the Farnham and Epsom Campuses' Master Plans over the past ten years including over £30m of capital projects.

Alan is a member of the UUK Rating Revaluation Group and has been a member of the HEFCE Estate Management Statistics' Group and the GuildHE Estates' Group. Alan is also currently a member of the Association of Managers in Higher Education Colleges and Universities (AMHEC) and a Governor of the new Strood Academy being Chair of its Finance, Personnel and Estates' Committee.
