Bio

Bassam Ahmed is a Technical Tutor in Moving Image Post-Production and Associate Lecturer, working in the field since 2012, with professional experience across film, television, and broadcast media. He holds an MA in Editing and Post-Production from London South Bank University and is a Fellow of Advance HE. His work sits at the intersection of industry and academia, translating professional post-production standards into technically rigorous educational practice.

Prior to joining higher education, Bassam worked with major regional broadcasters including Al Jazeera Satellite Channel, beIN Media Group, and Qatar National Television. His industry experience spans offline and online editing, colour grading, and sound post-production for television programming, documentaries, and short films. Several projects he has contributed to have been recognised at international film festivals.

Alongside his production work, Bassam has developed extensive expertise in professional post-production systems and workflow design. He is a certified instructor in Avid Media Composer and a certified trainer in DaVinci Resolve.

His technical specialisms include:

  • Workflow architecture and pipeline design
  • Media management systems for large-scale productions
  • AAF/XML round-tripping between editing and grading platforms
  • Colour management and grading pipelines
  • Broadcast and delivery standards
  • Professional post-production training aligned with industry practice

His approach emphasises not only software proficiency but structural understanding, ensuring students grasp why workflows function as they do, how to troubleshoot complex post-production challenges, and how to operate within collaborative, multi-department production environments.

Within his academic role, Bassam provides specialist technical instruction across moving image programmes and contributes to academic workshops as an Associate Lecturer. He supports practice-based research conducted by academic staff, particularly where projects require advanced post-production design, colour workflows, or technical integration between production and finishing stages.

Mentorship is a central aspect of his work. He supports students in developing industry-ready competencies, from editorial structuring and media organisation to colour finishing and final delivery. His teaching prioritises professional discipline, precision, and adaptability, qualities essential for contemporary film and television production.

Having worked across Egypt, Qatar, France, and the United Kingdom, Bassam brings an international perspective to his practice. This global industry experience informs his understanding of varied broadcast standards, production cultures, and post-production infrastructures.

His ongoing professional interests include workflow optimisation in hybrid production environments, evolving colour science methodologies, and strengthening the bridge between technical post-production education and industry demands.
